چکیده

The literature contains many investigations dealing with questions concerning familes of nonoverlapping sets. Even so, the recent paper [1] by E. Friedman introduces an apparently new type of interesting problems. In order to formulate them we need some definitions. Throughout the paper, without additional mention, we shall assume that each family C considered consist of a finite number of nonoverlapping copies of a convex body C.

Non-standard Visualizations of Fibonacci Numbers and the Golden Mean

Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Mean are numbers and thus 0-dimensional objects. Usually, they are visualized in the Euclidean plane using squares and rectangles in a spiral arrangement. The Golden Mean, as a ratio, is an affine geometric concept and therefore Euclidean visualizations are not mandatory. There are attempts to visualize the Fibonacci number sequence and Golden Spirals in higher ...

The density of critical percolation clusters touching the boundaries of strips and squares

We consider the density of two-dimensional critical percolation clusters, constrained to touch one or both boundaries, in infinite strips, halfinfinite strips and squares, as well as several related quantities for the infinite strip. Our theoretical results follow from conformal field theory and are compared with high-precision numerical simulation. For example, we show that the density of clus...

Artistic box trees

This short note describes a development of the traditional Pythagorean tree fractal to produce interesting three-dimensional structures based on cubes rather than squares. Adding a 90˚rotation at each bifurcation encourages three-dimensional growth, creating increasingly artistic shapes as the branching angle decreases. 1. Pythagorean box trees The Pythagorean tree is a plane fractal constructe...

Heavy Families: Masses and Mixings*

We use the infrared fixed point structure of the SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) renormalization group equations to derive predictions for the masses and mixings of heavy families in perturbatively unifiable grand unified theories. We show that the sum of the squares of all quark (or lepton) masses must be less than (355 GeV)2. This implies that theories with NH heavy families must have at least one new q...

Design and Production of a Pneumatic Moving Exciter for Determination of Vibration Behavior of Structures in Variable Frequencies

Determination and analysis of vibration behavior of structures for at least first few natural frequencies and mode shapes needs several sensors to be connected at different non node points and exciting the structure at one point. Other method for determination of first few mode shapes is to excite several points of the structure at once and sensing the response from one point.  Both methods nee...
